Age for online casino in the US
In every state that licenses online casino games, the player must be 21+. An 18+ land floor or lottery ticket is a different product — it does not lower the online-casino line.

Floor rules
Where “18+” usually comes from
Know before you sit
- Rhode Island land floors
- RI Lottery’s casino page admits guests 18+ for video lottery and tables. The same chapter sets iGaming only for players who have reached 21.
- Connecticut lottery products
- § 12-863 requires 21+ for online casino and sports accounts, but 18+ for keno, lottery draw tickets, and fantasy contests.
- Delaware lottery tickets
- 29 Del. C. § 4810: under 18 may not buy lottery tickets; under 21 may not wager on internet video lottery or internet table games.
- Nevada land floors
- Nevada gambling is 21+ on the floor (NRS 463.350). That land rule is not an online-casino licence — see the Nevada age guide.
- Not legal advice
- Orientation from published statutes and regulator pages. Tribal floors, sportsbooks, and new laws need their own text.

What “21+ online” means in practice
GATE
Age gate before account
Statutes require verification that the person is 21+ before an internet wagering account opens.
Tip: Fails = no account
LOC
Location + age together
UIGEA’s in-state carve-out and state regs pair age checks with geo checks — both must pass.
SHARE
Account sharing banned
Regs record that you may not let another person use the account — including someone under 21.
Tip: Criminal in several states
LAND
Land age is separate
A hotel key or an 18+ land admission rule does not rewrite the online-casino statute.
NONE
No iGaming statute
If your state has no licensed online casino, there is no lawful “online casino age” to meet there.
Tip: See national legality guide
Each label points at a verification duty — not a marketing badge on a homepage.
Sequence
How to read an age claim
Step 01
Name the product
Online casino, sports, lottery, fantasy, and land floors often use different ages in the same state.
Step 02
Open the statute or regulator page
Look for “21 years,” “legal age of 21,” or “authorized participant” definitions — not a blog table.
Step 03
Ignore cross-product shortcuts
“I can buy a lottery ticket at 18” or “the land casino lets 18-year-olds in” does not prove online casino access.
Step 04
If there is no iGaming list
There is no licensed online casino for that state. Age debates about grey sites are outside White Gambling.
Watch outs
Common age mistakes
01Treating “gambling age 18” as online casino
Many US Suggest rows mean lottery or a land floor. Licensed online casino in the seven iGaming states is 21+.
02Assuming Michigan tribal 18+ equals online 18+
Commercial Detroit floors and internet gaming under MGCB statutes are 21+. Do not import another property’s door rule into an online account.
03Using a friend’s account because you are under 21
State internet-gaming rules treat that as prohibited use. Several statutes call facilitating underage play a crime.
04Reading a .com “18+ welcome” as a US licence
Unlicensed sites invent their own age lines. Only the state regulator’s list and statute set the lawful age.

01Online casino age
What is the age for online casino in the US?
In every state that licenses online casino games — Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia — the published line is 21+. There is no federal online casino age that legalizes play nationwide; each state statute and regulator page controls the market you are physically in.
Can an 18-year-old open a licensed online casino account?
No. All seven licensed iGaming markets we checked require 21+. Some lottery products and some land floors use 18+, and that is where the “gamble at 18” search myth usually comes from — it does not open a licensed online casino account.
Is the online casino age the same in every legal state?
For licensed online casino games, yes in the seven states with statutes and regulator pages we verified on Oct 12, 2026: each sets 21+. Sports, fantasy, keno, and lottery tickets can use different ages inside the same state — Connecticut’s § 12-863 is the clearest split.
02Land vs online myths
Why do people say Michigan gambling age is 18?
Michigan lottery tickets may not be sold to anyone under 18 (MCL 432.29), which fuels the search myth. Detroit commercial casinos prohibit wagers under 21 (MCL 432.209), and internet gaming operators must verify that authorized participants are 21+ before an account or wager (MCL 432.311).
Is Rhode Island land 18+ but online casino 21+?
Yes. The Rhode Island Lottery’s casino page admits guests 18 and older for its land video lottery and table games, while R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-61.2-1 defines iGaming as available only to players who have reached 21. Same state, two age lines.
Does Nevada’s 21+ land age mean online casinos are legal there?
No. Nevada’s land gambling age is 21+ under NRS 463.350, but interactive gaming is limited to poker under Regulation 5A. A floor age rule is not an online casino licence. See Gambling age and ID in Nevada and the national online legality guide.
03Checks and limits
Who has to check that I am 21 for online casino?
The licensed internet gaming operator (or its platform provider) must run age and location verification before you open an account or place a wager. New Jersey’s 13:69O rules, Pennsylvania’s interactive gaming chapter, and Michigan’s § 432.311 all put that duty on the operator — not on a blog FAQ.
What if my state has no licensed online casino?
Then there is no lawful state online-casino age to satisfy there. Unlicensed sites may claim any age they like; that claim is not a US licence. Start from Is online casino legal in the US? for the seven-state map and federal deferral to states.
