House edge calculator

Free calculator for land-based Vegas table bets: pick a game and a bet — see the house edge %, the fraction behind it, and what a $100 unit costs on average. Standard floor rules only. Not your specific machine or slot RTP.

Entertainment math only. 21+ in Nevada. No betting system removes the house edge. Short sessions can land far from the average. Responsible play: set a stop before you buy in.

What this calculator does

One job: turn a named floor bet into a clear cost figure you can compare before you buy in.

  1. You pick a game and a betAmerican roulette, European roulette, craps lines/props, or baccarat Banker / Player / Tie.
  2. You get the house edge %Long-run expected loss as a percent of each unit under the rules on that row — not tonight’s result.
  3. You see a $100 unit costSame math as dollars: 5.26% → about $5.26 average cost per $100 flat bet if you could play forever at that unit.

How to use it

Five taps — then compare bets before you sit.

  1. Choose the game. Tap American roulette, European roulette, craps, or baccarat.
  2. Choose the bet. Pick the line, prop, or main wager from the list (Pass, Banker, even-money, and so on).
  3. Read the house edge %. That percent is the long-run expected loss on each unit under the stated rules.
  4. Check the $100 unit cost. Use it to size entertainment money — not as a promise for one spin or roll.
  5. Compare on the ladder. Scroll the full table (works without JavaScript) to rank bets from cheapest to most expensive.

Average cost per $100 unit

Where the number comes from

Two greens (0, 00) out of 38 pockets → expected loss 2/38 of each unit on standard payoffs.

Rules assumed

Double-zero wheel; standard US payoffs (even money 1:1, straight-up 35:1, etc.).

Worked examples

Static results from the same calculator math — readable without JavaScript. Standard Vegas floor rules.

  1. Example 01

    American roulette even-money

    Double-zero wheel · red / black / even / odd / high / low

House edge 5.26% (fraction 2/38). On a $100 unit the average cost is about $5.26 per bet — two greens beat those even-money lanes.

  2. Example 02

    American five-number basket

    0-00-1-2-3 basket · pays 6:1

House edge 7.89% (3/38). Worse than every other standard American bet — skip if you are shopping for lower cost.

  3. Example 03

    European roulette even-money

    Single-zero wheel · standard payoffs

House edge 2.70% (1/37). About half the American even-money cost. Confirm one green on the wheel before you buy in — most Vegas pits still run 0/00.

  4. Example 04

    Craps Pass line

Pass line only · no free odds counted

House edge 1.41% (7/495). ~$1.41 per $100 line unit. Free odds behind the line are 0% on the odds chips; the line bet keeps this edge.

  5. Example 05

    Craps Don’t Pass (bar 12)

    Don’t Pass · 12 barred on the come-out

House edge 1.36% (27/1980). Slightly cheaper than Pass on the line unit alone — still entertainment math, not a system.

  6. Example 06

    Craps Any seven

    One-roll proposition · pays 4:1

House edge 16.67% (6/36). ~$16.67 per $100 unit — among the most expensive common props. Line + odds is the usual cheaper path.

  7. Example 07

    Baccarat Banker (5% commission)

    Eight-deck shoe · standard third-card · commission table

House edge about 1.06% after commission. Player about 1.24%. Main bets beat Tie for cost.

  8. Example 08

    Baccarat Tie at 8:1

    Optional Tie · pays 8:1

House edge about 14.36%. Flashy payout, steep cost — treat as capped entertainment money or skip on a first session.

How to read a result

Edge is an average, not tonight’s result

  1. House edge

Long-run expected loss as a percent of each unit bet under the stated rules.

  2. $100 unit

What that percent costs on a $100 flat bet if you could play forever at the same unit — still not a guarantee for one session.

  3. Fraction

When we show 2/38 or 7/495, you can recompute the percent on paper. Baccarat rows cite shoe counts instead.

FAQ

House edge calculator FAQ

Suggest-style questions people ask before they pick a bet.

How does this house edge calculator work?

You choose a Vegas floor game and a named bet. The calculator returns the house edge percent under standard rules, the exact fraction when we derive it locally (for example 2/38 or 7/495), and the average cost on a $100 unit. Roulette and craps use exact combinatorics; baccarat uses eight-deck exhaustive counts. It does not simulate spins or promise a win.

What is house edge?

It is the casino’s long-run expected profit as a percent of each unit you bet under fixed rules. A 5.26% edge means that over a huge number of identical $100 bets, the average loss is about $5.26 per bet — not that you lose $5.26 every spin.

What is the American roulette house edge?

On a standard double-zero wheel, almost every inside and outside bet carries a 5.26% house edge (2/38). The five-number basket 0-00-1-2-3 is worse at 7.89% (3/38).

What is the European roulette house edge?

On a single-zero wheel with standard payoffs, the edge is 2.70% (1/37). Most Las Vegas floors still run American 0/00 — look at the greens before you buy in.

What is the craps Pass line house edge?

Pass (and Come) sit at 1.41% (7/495) on the line unit alone. Free odds behind the line are paid at true odds — 0% edge on the odds chips — while the line bet keeps its edge.

What is the Don’t Pass house edge?

With 12 barred on the come-out, Don’t Pass is about 1.36% (27/1980). Slightly lower than Pass on the line unit; play style and odds multiples still matter more than that gap for one night.

What is the baccarat Banker house edge?

On a standard eight-deck commission table, Banker is about 1.06%, Player about 1.24%, and Tie at 8:1 about 14.36%. Banker’s edge is after the 5% commission.

Is house edge the same as RTP?

RTP (return to player) is roughly 100% minus house edge for a fixed bet. We show edge because it maps cleanly to “cost per $100 unit.” Slot RTP by machine is not in this calculator — those figures are not honestly published per cabinet for land Vegas.

Can I use this as a craps house edge calculator?

Yes for common craps bets: Pass, Don’t Pass, Come, Don’t Come, free odds (0%), Field (2:1 and 3:1-on-12), Place 4/5/6/8/9/10, Any seven, Any craps, and hardways. Confirm Field pays and Place rules on the felt in front of you.

Does this calculator beat the house?

No. Looking up the edge helps you avoid the worst props and size entertainment money. It does not create a profitable system, and short sessions can land far from the average.
