- Free odds behind Pass/Come (take) or Don’t Pass/Don’t Come (lay) pay at true odds for that point.
- House edge on the odds portion is 0% when paid at these ratios — the line bet still carries its small edge.
- Take: 4/10 pay 2:1 · 5/9 pay 3:2 · 6/8 pay 6:5. Lay flips those ratios.
- Bet in clean multiples (e.g. $5 steps on take 6/8) so the dealer does not round your payout down.

How free odds pay
After a point is established, you may place an extra wager behind your line bet. That odds bet wins or loses with the line, but pays true odds — the fair ratio of ways to seven versus ways to the point. Casinos still limit how many times your flat bet you may take or lay (2×, 3-4-5×, 10×…). This calculator prices the odds stack only; confirm the posted multiple on the felt.
True odds chart
Ways are out of 36 two-dice outcomes. Take odds root for the point before seven; lay odds root for seven before the point.
| Point | Ways vs 7 | Take pays | Clean take $ | Lay pays | Clean lay $ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 3 / 6 | 2:1 | ×$1 | 1:2 | ×$2 |
| 5 | 4 / 6 | 3:2 | ×$2 | 2:3 | ×$3 |
| 6 | 5 / 6 | 6:5 | ×$5 | 5:6 | ×$6 |
| 8 | 5 / 6 | 6:5 | ×$5 | 5:6 | ×$6 |
| 9 | 4 / 6 | 3:2 | ×$2 | 2:3 | ×$3 |
| 10 | 3 / 6 | 2:1 | ×$1 | 1:2 | ×$2 |
Why clean multiples matter
Take odds on 6 or 8 pay 6:5 — stake in $5 steps ($5, $10, $25, $30…) so the win is whole dollars. Take 5/9 (3:2) wants even-dollar steps of $2. Lay odds flip the step to the win side of the ratio. Odd leftover amounts can get rounded down at the rail.

Short answers for the calculator intent — then open a guide or shortlist if you need the rail walkthrough.
- What does a craps odds payout calculator do?
- You pick the point (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10), choose take or lay odds, and enter your free-odds stake. The tool returns profit and total return at true odds, plus whether your stake is a clean multiple for chip payouts.
- Do free odds have a house edge?
- The odds portion paid at true odds has a 0% house edge. Your Pass or Don’t Pass flat bet still carries its usual edge (~1.41% Pass, ~1.36% Don’t Pass). Taking or laying odds improves the combined edge versus flat only.
- What are true odds by point for take odds?
- Points 4 and 10 pay 2:1; 5 and 9 pay 3:2; 6 and 8 pay 6:5. Lay odds flip those ratios (1:2, 2:3, 5:6).
- Why bet multiples of $5 on odds for 6 and 8?
- Take odds on 6/8 pay 6:5, so a $5-step stake (including $25) wins whole dollars. That is different from place 6/8, which pays 7:6 and wants $6 steps. Other free-odds points show their own clean steps in the chart.
- Is this the same as a place bet calculator?
- No. Place bets pay house odds (7:6, 7:5, 9:5) with a positive edge. Free odds behind Pass/Come or Don’t Pass/Don’t Come pay true odds. Use this tool for free odds only.
