Craps odds bet behind Pass
Point is on — odds go behind your Pass chip. Glanceable payouts and dice for a phone at the rail.

Answer first
90s- 01Odds are an extra bet after a point is established — not on the come-out.
- 02Place odds behind your Pass (or Don’t Pass) stack; dealers will guide the spot.
- 03Odds pay at true odds for that point — better than most flashy center props.
- 04Table multiples (2x, 3x/4x/5x, 10x…) cap how large odds can be vs your line bet.
- 05You can take odds, reduce, or skip — Pass still works without them.
- 06Confirm the multiple on the felt or ask the box once before you max out.
On the rail
When odds become available
Come-out (no odds yet)
7/11 or craps settle Pass — no point, no odds
Point on (example: 6)
Now you may put odds behind Pass
Odds sit behind the line bet only while a point is ON. A seven-out or making the point ends that odds wager with the line.

Glance before you bet
| Point | Pass odds pay | Don’t Pass odds |
|---|---|---|
| 4 or 10 | 2:1 | 1:2 |
| 5 or 9 | 3:2 | 2:3 |
| 6 or 8 | 6:5 | 5:6 |
| Come odds | Same as Pass | Mirror on Don’t Come |
| Come-out | No odds yet | Wait for a point |
| Props / Field | Posted odds | Not true-odds Pass |
House edge on the odds portion is zero when paid at true odds; the line bet still carries the small built-in edge. Multiples are table-specific.
Your turn
Odds vocabulary
Taking odds
Adding a true-odds wager behind Pass (or Come) after the point is on. You are rooting for the point before seven.
Laying odds
The Don’t Pass / Don’t Come version — you lay odds against the point. Payouts flip vs taking odds.
Odds multiple
How many times your line bet you may place in odds (2x, 3-4-5x, 10x, etc.). Posted or announced at the table.
Working / off
Some players ask for odds “off” on the come-out of a new round for Come bets. Pass-line odds are typically only up after a point.
Center props
Hardways and one-roll bets in the middle. High payouts, worse edge — not the same as odds behind Pass.
Sequence
Putting odds down
Step 01
Win or set the point
Have a Pass Line bet that survives the come-out into a point (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10).
Step 02
Ask or place odds
Set chips behind your Pass stack — or hand them in and say “odds.” Follow the dealer’s placement.
Step 03
Respect the multiple
If you overshoot the allowed odds, the dealer will correct the amount. Do not argue mid-roll.
Step 04
Resolve with the point
Point hits → line and odds pay. Seven-out → both lose. Then a new come-out starts.

Roll continues
While the puck is ON, only the point or a seven ends Pass and its odds — Field and props are separate stories.
Watch outs
Common mistakes
01Trying odds on the come-out
There is no point yet. Wait for the puck to flip ON before stacking odds behind Pass.
02Confusing odds with the Field
Field is a one-roll bet with its own payouts. Odds are the true-odds stack behind your line.
03Max odds on a thin buy-in
Full odds amplify swings. If a single seven-out ruins the night, use a smaller multiple.
04Touching odds after “no more bets”
Once the stick calls the roll, hands off. Late adds look like past-posting.

After the 90 seconds
Questions before and after you play
A 90-second guide cannot cover every table moment. Tap a group, then a question — answers are short paragraphs, not one-liners.
01Taking odds
Do I have to take odds behind Pass?
No. Pass Line works without odds. Taking odds is optional and usually improves the combined edge because the odds portion is paid at true odds. Skip or reduce them if the swing feels too large for your buy-in.
Where exactly do the odds chips go?
Behind your Pass Line bet — dealers often set or nudge the stack for you on a crowded rail. If you are unsure, hand chips in and say “odds on Pass.” Do not toss chips toward the shooter or across live spots mid-roll.
02Payouts and limits
Why do 4 and 10 pay more than 6 and 8 on odds?
True odds reflect how often each point appears versus a seven. Points 4 and 10 are harder, so Pass odds pay 2:1; 6 and 8 pay 6:5. The table multiple still caps how many units you may place.
What does 3-4-5x odds mean?
A common Vegas structure: you may take 3× odds on points 4/10, 4× on 5/9, and 5× on 6/8 relative to your flat Pass bet. Other tables post flat 2x, 10x, or more — read the sign or ask the box once.
03Where to play
Where can I find craps tables after this?
Use the venues below with published NGCB craps counts. Confirm the live odds multiple and table minimum on the felt — catalog pages list inventory, not tonight’s 3-4-5x board.
