Sports betting is legal — casino iGaming is not

Since May 1, 2020, Colorado licenses sports betting, including internet sports betting operators, under the sports-betting statutes administered by the Division of Gaming. The Division publishes a licensed sports books and operators page.

That list is for sports wagering. It is not an online-casino (slots / tables) licence list. The Limited Gaming Control Commission has also restricted Colorado casino licensees from involvement with internet gaming sites accessible to Colorado residents.

Words that keep the Colorado story honest

Know before you sit

Internet gambling / online casino
Remote casino-style wagering. Division guidance treats placing those bets from Colorado as illegal; there is no commercial iGaming programme.
Limited gaming
Constitutional / statutory land casino gaming confined to the commercial districts of Central, Black Hawk, and Cripple Creek.
Internet sports betting operator
A licence class for sports wagers by computer or mobile device — defined in the sports-betting statutes, not as online casino games.

How to verify a Colorado claim

  1. Step 01

Separate casino apps from sports apps

If the product is slots or table games online, Division internet-gambling guidance applies — not the sports-betting list.

  2. Step 02

Open the Division’s “What is Legal?” page

Read the internet-gambling section and the formal AG opinion link before trusting any .com claim.

  3. Step 03

For sports only, use the licensed list

Internet sports betting operators appear on the Division’s licensed sports books page. That still is not iGaming.

  4. Step 04

Keep land floors in the three towns

Limited gaming is a land product in designated districts — a different licence from any online casino pitch.

01Colorado online casino status

Is online casino legal in Colorado?

No. The Colorado Division of Gaming’s “What is Legal?” guidance states that internet gambling is illegal and that it remains illegal to place bets from Colorado with online casino businesses, even when those sites claim a licence elsewhere. There is no commercial online-casino programme. Checked Oct 12, 2026.

Is online sports betting legal in Colorado?

Yes, through operators licensed by the Division of Gaming for sports betting, including internet sports betting. The Division publishes a licensed sports books and operators page. That programme does not authorize online casino games. This guide does not name or link sportsbook brands.

Are land casinos legal in Colorado?

Limited gaming is legal in the commercial districts of Central, Black Hawk, and Cripple Creek under the Limited Gaming Act and Division of Gaming oversight. Those land licences are not online-casino permits. CasinoList does not yet catalog Colorado floors.

02Why ads still show online casinos

Why do sites say online casinos are legal in Colorado?

They often blur licensed sports betting with casino iGaming, or rely on a foreign licence. Division guidance says a site may be licensed where bets are received yet still illegal to use from Colorado for online casino play. Always start at sbg.colorado.gov.

Did Colorado’s attorney general address online gambling?

Yes. A formal Attorney General opinion linked from the Division’s page concludes that expanding limited gaming to include online gambling would require a constitutional amendment. That reinforces why there is no ordinary commercial iGaming list today.

Is this page legal advice?

No. It summarizes Division of Gaming public pages and the linked AG opinion as of Oct 12, 2026. For personal risk questions, read the statute or ask qualified counsel.
