Let It Ride in 90 seconds

Glanceable rules for a phone at the pit: three equal bets, when to pull back, pay-table hands, and what not to do.

Reviewed Oct 8, 2026

Answer first

90s
  1. 01Post three equal bets before the deal (often labeled $, $, $).
  2. 02You get three hole cards; two community cards come later.
  3. 03After your three: pull back the first bet or let it ride.
  4. 04After the first community card: pull back the second bet or let it ride.
  5. 05The third bet always stays; payouts follow the posted pay table.
  6. 06No dealer hand to beat — you are paid for your five-card poker hand.
  7. 07No win guarantees — minimums and pay tables are posted on the floor.

On the felt

Your three + two community

  • Your holes (example)

Pocket Aces — strong let-it-ride candidate

  • Community (hidden → revealed)

Two shared cards complete your five

  • Final five (example)

    Aces full — pay-table hand

There is no dealer hand. You win when your five-card combination hits the posted Let It Ride pay table.

Progress

Three bets, two decisions

  1. 1

    Three bets

    Equal chips on three spots

  2. 2

    3 holes

    Look at your three cards

  3. 3

    Pull #1?

Take back first bet or ride

  4. 4

    1 community

    First board card

  5. 5

    Pull #2?

Take back second bet or ride

  6. 6

    Pay

    Second community + pay table

The third bet never comes back. Pull-backs are offered only in their windows — miss the window and the bet stays.

Cheat sheet

Pay-table hands (glance the faces)

Glance the faces — compare in one second.

  1. 1Royal flush

    Top pay — A-K-Q-J-10 suited

  2. 2Straight flush

Five in a row, one suit

  3. 3Four of a kind

    Four same rank

  4. 4Full house

    Three + a pair

  5. 5Flush

    Five same suit

  6. 6Straight

    Five in a row, mixed

  7. 7Three of a kind

    Often lowest paying rank

  8. 8Two pair

Usually no pay — check felt

Many Let It Ride pay tables start paying at three of a kind. Two pair often pays nothing — read the sheet before you buy in.

Your turn

Bets and decisions

  • Three equal bets

Post the same amount on each of three spots before the deal. Table minimum applies per bet.

  • Pull back #1

After seeing your three cards, take back the first bet or leave it to ride.

  • Pull back #2

After the first community card, take back the second bet or leave it to ride.

  • Let it ride

Leave a bet in action for the pay table. The third bet always rides.

  • 3-card bonus

Optional side bet on your three holes alone — posted pay table, separate from the main three.

Sequence

One hand, step by step

  1. Step 01

    Buy in and post three

Cash to the dealer for chips. Place three equal bets (and optional 3-card bonus) when the table is open.

  2. Step 02

    Three hole cards

You receive three cards. Decide whether to pull the first bet back or let it ride.

  3. Step 03

    First community card

One shared card is revealed. Decide whether to pull the second bet back or let it ride. Third bet stays.

  4. Step 04

    Second community and pay

Final community card completes your five. Remaining bets are paid from the posted Let It Ride pay table — or taken if you miss.

Playbook · Beginner

Beginner strategy (legal basics)

  1. Tip 01

    Learn a published pull-back chart

Common advice: let the first bet ride with strong made pairs/high pairs or strong straight/flush draws; otherwise pull back. Use a chart written for Let It Ride.

  2. Tip 02

Remember two pair often does not pay

If the pay table starts at trips, a made two pair on three cards is not automatic “ride everything.” Check the sheet.

  3. Tip 03

Treat the 3-card bonus as optional

Side bonuses are entertainment with a worse edge. Keep them small or skip until the main line feels automatic.

  4. Tip 04

    Do not chase after pull-backs

Pulling back weak holdings is correct. Doubling the next three bets to “get even” is how stacks disappear.

  5. Tip 05

    One window at a time

Signal pull-back only when the dealer asks. Late grabs after the next card is cheating territory.

  6. Tip 06

    What this is not

No past-posting, no marking cards, no phone apps mid-hand to cheat. Advanced play means cleaner ride/pull choices under the same rules.

Watch outs

Common mistakes

  1. 01Riding every suited connector

Pretty junk still misses the pay table most of the time. Pull back when the chart says pull.

  2. 02Assuming two pair always pays

Many Let It Ride sheets pay trips or better only. Read before you celebrate.

  3. 03Maxing the 3-card bonus every hand

Optional side bets raise the house edge fast. Tiny or skip for first sessions.

  4. 04Missing the pull-back window

If you hesitate past the dealer’s call, the bet may be locked. Decide promptly.

  5. 05Thinking you play the dealer

There is no dealer hand. You are paid only for hitting the pay table with your five cards.

Playbook · Intermediate

Intermediate strategy

  1. Mid 01

Separate first and second pull decisions

After the first community card, made hands and draws change. Re-evaluate the second bet with the new card — do not autopilot.

  2. Mid 02

Match the chart to the pay table

If this pit’s sheet differs (rare pay ranks), your ride thresholds can shift. Confirm the felt before copying a blog chart blindly.

  3. Mid 03

    Bankroll for three units out

Worst case leaves all three bets in action. Size so a cold stretch does not force the ATM.

  4. Mid 04

    Table selection

Readable pay table and a minimum you can sustain beat a rushed high-limit pit with a blurry sheet.

  5. Mid 05

    Cap side bets

Even when the 3-card bonus “feels due,” the math does not care. Keep props capped.

Playbook · Advanced

Advanced notes (still legal)

  1. Pro 01

Published pull strategy is most of the edge work

For casual play, correct ride/pull lines capture most legal EV. Fancy deviations without a chart are mostly noise.

  2. Pro 02

Side bets still have worse math

Hot bonus streaks do not rewrite the posted edge. Cap them if you play them at all.

  3. Pro 03

    Watch for pay-table variants

Some rooms tweak payouts. Ask the floor once; do not assume every Strip Let It Ride matches a single chart.

  4. Pro 04

    Hard stop on edge cases

Pulling a bet back after the next card is exposed is past-posting — cheating. Advanced means cleaner legal decisions.

  5. Pro 05

    Devices stay pocketed

Live advice apps mid-hand can be forbidden. Study charts away from the deal.

Floor rules

Etiquette & what is forbidden

Know before you sit

Pull only when offered
Take bets back only in the dealer’s pull windows. Late grabs after the next card are past-posting.
One box at a time
Act when the dealer reaches you. Coaching other players’ ride/pull unasked is rude.
Chips in the marked spots
Do not splash across all three bets mid-deal. Adds follow the dealer’s call.
Phones
A pull-back chart is often fine if discreet. Filming cards, dealers, or stacks is not.
No past-posting
Never remove a bet after the next card is out. That is cheating — the pit will kill the action.
Tips
Optional. Tip bets are placed as directed by the dealer — not thrown onto live spots.

After the 90 seconds

Questions before and after you play

A 90-second guide cannot cover every table moment. Tap a group, then a question — answers are short paragraphs, not one-liners.

01Before you sit

Do I play against the dealer in Let It Ride?

No. There is no dealer hand to beat. You post three bets, may pull two of them back, and are paid only when your five-card hand hits the posted pay table.

How much should I bring for my first Let It Ride table?

Count three times the posted per-spot minimum as one full setup before any pull-back. Bring several setups you can lose calmly. If the Strip minimum feels high, walk to another pit.

Is the 3-card bonus required?

No. It is an optional side bet on your three hole cards alone. Many first-timers skip it until the main three-bet line feels automatic.

02Cards and pull-backs

Can I pull back all three bets?

No. The third bet always stays in action. You may pull the first after your three cards and the second after the first community card — only in those windows.

What if I miss the pull-back call?

If the dealer has moved on and the next card is out, that bet is usually locked. Decide promptly when asked; do not try to yank chips late.

How many community cards are there?

Two. Combined with your three holes they make a five-card poker hand scored against the Let It Ride pay table.

03Betting decisions

When should I let the first bet ride?

Published beginner charts often ride with high pairs, strong made hands, or strong straight/flush draws — and pull otherwise. Match any chart to this table’s pay sheet. Not a win promise.

Does two pair pay?

On many Vegas Let It Ride pay tables, two pair does not pay — payouts start at three of a kind. Always read the felt before you assume a payday.

Are the three bets paid separately?

Yes. Each bet still in action is paid (or taken) according to the same five-card result and pay table. Pulling one back simply removes that unit from the payoff.

04Strategy in practice

Is a pull-back chart allowed at the table?

In many rooms a personal chart is fine if you are quick and do not delay the game. Using a phone app for live advice mid-hand can cross into forbidden device use — ask the floor once if unsure.

Should I always max the side bonus?

No. The 3-card bonus is entertainment with a worse edge than the main line on typical sheets. Keep it tiny or skip it for first sessions.

05Etiquette and phones

Can I play two spots?

Often yes if the table is not full and each spot’s three bets meet the minimum. The floor can limit spots when busy. Ask before you drop a second stack.

Someone is telling me to always ride. Okay?

Short friendly tips happen; riding every hand against a published pull chart is how beginners bleed chips. Decide for your own box.

06After you play

How do I leave mid-shoe?

Finish the hand in your box through the pay step, then color up when the dealer has a moment. You do not need other players’ permission to leave.
