There is no US tribal casino age

IGRA does not set a patron age. The compact for that tribe, or the property page, does. Figures below were re-read on 12 Oct 2026. Not legal advice.

Where an age is written

  1. 1

    IGRA text

Class definitions. No patron minimum in §§2703 or 2710.

  2. 2

    That compact

Class III terms for one tribe and one state. L1.

  3. 3

    Property page

House rule. L3 when that page is the only cite.

  4. 4

    This door

The line for this floor. A neighbor’s line stays next door.

Only sentences re-read on 12 Oct 2026 are in the table. A dossier row without that re-read is not a number on this page.

Know before you sit

Kalispel § III.N
L1. No person under 18 participates in the Gaming Operation or is allowed on the Class III floor during operating hours. Persons between 18 and 21 may play Class III if they do not purchase or consume alcohol on the premises.
Muckleshoot § L
L1. Under 18 may not participate or be on the Class III floor during operating hours. If alcohol is offered in the Gaming area, no patron under 21 is permitted there, with a direct crossing exception.
Table Mountain § 6.3
L1, 2023 compact. Under 18 may not be present where Gaming Activities are conducted, unless en route to a non-gaming area. If alcohol is served, under 21 are barred from areas where it may be consumed.
Coyote Valley § 6.3
L1. The amended compact bars persons under 21 from any room where Gaming Activities are conducted, unless the person is en route to a non-gaming area. Alcohol rules in the same section are separate.
Bay Mills § 4(G)
L1. Section 4(G) of the Bay Mills Indian Community Class III compact: no person under the age of 18 may participate in any Class III game. That sentence is play, not a building-wide pass.
Ak-Chin (w)
L1. The 2021 Ak-Chin compact requires tribal law that no person under 21 places a wager, directly or indirectly, in any Gaming Activity. Employment ages in the same clause are a different line.
South Dakota FAQ
L1. The Department of Revenue gaming FAQ: at least 21 to wager in Deadwood casinos and at the tribal casinos. Simulcast and live horse racing in that answer are 18. No property is named.

  1. Compact or statute

A compact section or a statute is L1. The rows on this page are L1. Name the section, not a neighboring tribe.

  2. Operator page only

If the age appears only on the operator’s page, label it L3. This page has no L3 age, because those pages were not the cites used.

  3. Alcohol can move the line

Kalispel lets 18–20 play Class III if they do not buy or drink alcohol on the premises. Muckleshoot bars under 21 from the Gaming area when alcohol is offered there.

  4. No re-read, no number

A dossier age that was not opened again this session is not printed. Silence is not a guess from the next state.

L1 and L3 name the kind of source. ALC is the alcohol clause. GAP means the figure was not re-checked.

Sequence

Check the floor you mean

  1. Step 01

    Start with the compact section

Read the section named for that tribe. Kalispel III.N is not Muckleshoot L. Table Mountain 6.3(a) is not Coyote Valley 6.3(a).

  2. Step 02

Keep Class III on Class III

Bay Mills § 4(G) limits participation in a Class III game. It does not rename Class II bingo as slot machines.

  3. Step 03

    Separate alcohol from the wager

Table Mountain bars under 18 from gaming rooms and, if alcohol is served, bars under 21 from areas where alcohol may be consumed.

  4. Step 04

    Mark an operator page L3

When the only age is on the property site, label L3 and name that property. Do not upgrade it to a compact.

Watch outs

Mistakes that invent a floor

  1. 01One US tribal age

§§2703 and 2710 define classes and compacts. The “minors” in §2710 are per-capita recipients, not a door age. There is no national patron minimum in those sections.

  2. 02The next state’s number

Ak-Chin (w) is the Ak-Chin Indian Community. Bay Mills § 4(G) is that community. South Dakota’s FAQ names tribal casinos in that state, not a compact in another state.

  3. 03Class II called slots

Class II in §2703 is bingo, including technologic aids, and non-banked card games. Slot machines are excluded from that class. A compact age does not create a “Class II slots” category.

  4. 04Nevada 21 as tribal

Nevada commercial floors use a different statute. That 21 is not a tribal compact. Read /en/guides/gambling-age-nevada-id/ for the commercial door.

After the 90 seconds

Questions before and after you play

A 90-second guide cannot cover every table moment. Tap a group, then a question — answers are short paragraphs, not one-liners.

01The number

Is there a US minimum age for tribal casinos?

No patron minimum appears in the 2023 edition of 25 U.S.C. §§2703 or 2710. Those sections define classes and when Class III needs a compact. The age, when one is written, is in that tribe’s compact or on the property page. This page prints only lines re-read on 12 Oct 2026.

Why do two California compacts use different ages?

Table Mountain Rancheria’s 2023 compact § 6.3(a) bars persons under 18 from rooms where Gaming Activities are conducted, with an en-route exception. The Coyote Valley Band of Pomo Indians amended compact § 6.3(a) bars persons under 21 from those rooms, with the same kind of en-route exception. Each section stands on its own.

Does Washington use one tribal casino age?

The two compacts re-read here do not. Kalispel § III.N allows persons between 18 and 21 to play Class III if they do not purchase or consume alcohol on the premises. Muckleshoot § L bars patrons under 21 from the Gaming area when alcohol is offered there, after an 18 floor for the Class III gaming floor.

02What this page leaves out

Why are other dossier states missing?

Dossier rows for other states did not yield a figure re-read from the official file in this session, so those states stay off this page. A compact that only points at another statute, without a numeral in the pages opened here, is in that group. No number is filled in from a neighbor.

Are the Las Vegas casinos below tribal?

No. They are commercial floors on the first-timer list, a different licence from a tribal compact. Nevada’s commercial gambling age is a state statute, explained at /en/guides/gambling-age-nevada-id/. How the tribal classes work is /en/guides/how-tribal-casinos-work/.

Is a Class III age also the age for Class II?

Not from these files. Bay Mills § 4(G) says no person under 18 may participate in any Class III game. Muckleshoot § L speaks to the Class III gaming floor. Class II remains bingo and non-banked cards under §2703, and slot machines are not that class. See /en/guides/class-2-vs-class-3-gaming/.
