Is it legal to buy lottery tickets online in the US?
Only through that state’s official iLottery channel, or a courier that the state separately regulates. Our lottery state table (Oct 13, 2026) marks 17 live jurisdictions. A private website is not a state lottery licence. You must be physically in that state for the official app.
Are online lottery tickets legit?
They are legit when the sale is on the state lottery’s own site or app (for example Pennsylvania Lottery at palottery.pa.gov in our licence file). Screens that copy a jackpot logo without that hostname are not the lottery.

Which states have legal online lottery?
As of our October 13, 2026 check, online lottery is live in 17 jurisdictions: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia. Every other state either has no law, has a law that has not launched yet, or limits play to a physical venue. Check the state regulator before you deposit, because launches and repeals happen mid-year.
How old do you have to be for online lottery?
It depends on the state, not on the app. Of the 17 states where online lottery is live in our October 13, 2026 check, 1 set 21 as the minimum age and 6 allow 18 or 19 (Connecticut, District of Columbia, North Carolina, North Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia). The operator must verify age and identity before the first real-money wager, so a younger player is refused at sign-up, not at cash-out.
Is a lottery courier app legal?
Only where the state lottery licenses couriers. A courier buys a paper ticket at a licensed retailer and holds it for you. Some states have banned couriers outright, so the app working in one state means nothing next door.
Which states have no lottery at all?
Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah have no state lottery. Residents there cannot buy state lottery tickets online or at retail inside their own state.
