- Live markets usually carry a higher margin than pregame lines.
- Cash out lets you settle early, but the offer includes the book’s margin.

Common live markets
| Market | Example |
|---|---|
| Live moneyline | Team to win from now |
| Live spread | Adjusted spread mid-game |
| Live total | Updated over/under |
| Next score | Next team to score |
| Quarter or half | Result of one period |
Why live margins are higher
Books update thousands of prices quickly and risk being slow after a play. Wider margins and delays protect them.
A live moneyline at −125 / +105 has a margin near 4.8%; many live markets are wider, around 6–10%.
Bettors with faster information than the book are often limited.
How live odds are set
Books use models that update win chances after every play, using score, time left and possession. Traders watch the feeds and pause markets when needed.
A team down by 7 with the ball late in a game may move from +300 to +150 after one long gain. Prices can change several times a minute.
Data feeds reach books a few seconds after the action. That is why bet delays exist and why markets close during big plays.

01Live betting
What is live betting?
Betting on a game after it starts. Odds update during play, and you can bet on the winner, spread, total or events such as the next score.
Why was my live bet rejected?
Odds changed during the bet delay, or the market was suspended. You can usually accept the new price or cancel.
What is a bet delay?
A short pause, often 3–10 seconds, before a live bet is accepted. It stops bets placed after something has already happened.
Is cash out a good deal?
It is convenient but priced with the book’s margin, so on average it returns a little less than letting the bet run.
Is live betting legal?
Yes, where sports betting is legal. Licensed apps and casino sportsbooks offer it, with market choice varying by state.
Are live odds worse than pregame?
Often, yes. Live margins are commonly 6–10% versus about 4.5% for pregame spreads at −110.
02Where to bet
Can I bet live at a casino sportsbook?
