Betting tickets: your receipt for a wager
A betting ticket is your receipt at a retail sportsbook. It shows the bet, the odds, your stake, what you can win and a ticket number or barcode. Treat it like cash until you cash it in.

Checking before you leave
Mistakes happen at the window: the wrong team, the wrong line or the wrong amount. Most books will only fix errors before the event starts and often only before you leave the counter.
Read the team, the line, the odds and the stake. If something is off, say so right away.
Common ticket types
| Type | Shows |
|---|---|
| Straight | One selection |
| Parlay | Several legs and a combined price |
| Teaser | Adjusted spreads |
| Futures | Long-term outcome and odds |
| Live bet | Odds at time of bet |
Each book prints them a little differently.
Expiry and lost tickets
Tickets do not last forever. Many books give 180 days, some up to a year, and some states set the rule. The expiry is often printed on the ticket or the house rules.
Because most tickets are bearer instruments, a lost ticket may be paid to anyone who finds it. Some books can stop payment if you report it fast and have the ticket number.

Big winners
From 2026, for wins of $2,000 or more that are at least 300 times the bet, the book issues a W-2G and asks for ID and your SSN. Large cash payouts may also need ID for anti-money-laundering rules.
Parlays and futures are the tickets most likely to hit 300 times the bet.

App betting vs paper tickets
Many casinos now link retail bets to an app account, so your ticket is also stored digitally. That makes a lost ticket less of a problem.
If you bet in cash at the window, the paper ticket is still the only proof.
